Is there another way to set up my DexterVOIP Service with a Router?

You should have received an install guide with your Launch Kit that walked you through how to install your new DexterVOIP Service with a router, however, if you prefer to reverse your router set-up, use these steps.

1. Set-Up

  • Unplug the power up modem and keep it unplugged for at least 1 minute
  • Disconnect the router's Ethernet cable from the modem
  • Plug the Ethernet cable from your router into the GREEN (LAN) Port on the back of the gizmo
  • Connect one end of the provided YELLOW cable to the YELLOW port (WAN) on the back of the gizmo
  • Connect the other end of the YELLOW cable to the modem's Ethernet port

2. Power Cycle

  • Power on the modem and wait for 2 minutes for the modem to reboot
  • Power on the gizmo
  • Power off your router for 10 seconds and power it back on
  • Confirm your Internet connection you may need to restart your computer
  • The gizmo is ready when the VoIP light (located on the top panel) is solid

3. Making Phone Calls

  • Plug your phone cable into the PHONE 1 port on the back of the gizmo
  • Make your first phone call to DexterMO Internet's Welcome Number, 1-240-786-0222, to hear how to log on to dextermo.net and set up your features
  • Start making and receiving phone calls!

I am a DSL User, how can I enable my PPPoE?

If your DSL provider requires a "User Name & Password" authentication when logging in from your PC, you will need to change your PPPoE configuration. (PPPoE stands for Points-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet.) Be sure to check with your provider first to find out if changing your PPPoE configuration is necessary.

DSL users who are not required to enter a User Name & Password as part of their normal DSL experience should move forward with basic installation instructions.

1. Connecting

  • Connect your computer to the Ethernet port on the back of the gizmo
  • Open a web browser and enter 192.168.0.1 to the address field

2. Enabling

  • Select "WAN Setup" on the left hand side of the screen
  • Select "PPPoE" from the Connection Type drop down menu
  • Enter the name in the PPPoE Login Name field
  • Enter the password in the PPPoE Login Password field
  • Click the "Submit All Changes" button

3. Begin Installing

  • Once you have enabled PPPoE, please follow the appropriate setup instructions for your gizmo installation
  • Please note, if you have a router you need to access the router's configuration and disable PPPoE and enable DHCP, or "Obtain IP address automatically." See your router manual for instructions
